Electric vehicles have made it to the top of U.S. mayors’ climate agendas, according to a new survey by the U.S. Conference of Mayors. More than half of the 103 mayors surveyed called EVs the most promising technology for reducing energy and carbon, while almost as many cited low-energy buildings as an important technology.

The findings show increased interest among city leaders in zero-emissions vehicles, mirroring President Joe Biden’s emphasis on EVs in his climate policies. In a similar 2016 survey, only a quarter of mayors cited electric vehicles as the most important priority.
